How to read the minimum wage pages

Every province, territory and the federal government has its own page. They all follow the same order.

The large number

This is the general hourly rate, the rate that applies to most workers. Under it is the date it started and the page it was read from.

Next change

What the official page says about the next increase. If the page names no next change, we say so. We never guess a future rate.

Other rates and exceptions

Some places have other rates, such as one for students or tipped workers. Some workers are not covered by the general rate. These are listed only as the official page states them. The official page, and the law behind it, have the full detail.

The labels

  • official: read on a government page.
  • our reading: our reading of official material that does not spell the point out.
  • secondary: found only on another website. We check these against the official source before we rely on them.

Last checked

The grey strip under the title shows when we last read the official pages and when we plan to read them again. Governments can change a rate between our checks, so the official page always governs.
